OUDI Use Case: Addition Of Non-OOTB Tables Through Data Augmentationimage

By Krishna Sai Geetla, HEXstream data analytics engineer

Goal:

To verify if a new dimension extracted through Data Augmentation feature can be added.

Key points to consider:

→ The new table must have matching primary key data to join with the out of the box dimension.

→ Both the primary key names for existing dimension and new dimension must not be same

Flow of steps:

·      Custom dimension is brought through Data augmentation.

·      In FDI admin condole select the data configuration option.

·      Select the Data source connector from which the new dimension is extracted.

·      Select Data augmentation.

·      Click on “create” dropdown in next window and select “augmentation”.

·      In the augmentation window, we can select augmentation type as create dimension> source dataset type is supplemental data and source table type is system provided.

·      Select the required source table from the connector that needs to be extracted as dimension in Target ADW and click on “Next”.

·      In the second window select the attributes for the dimension.

·      Next window, select the primary key for the new dimension and click on “Next”.

·      Give a name for the Data augmentation. Then give table suffix which will be the physical suffix name of the table. Table name will be generated automatically according to the connector prefix. Lastly select “run immediately” in schedule and click on “finish”. Select -“continue” if subject area is not selected.

·      Check the status in Data augmentation page.

·      To see the status of the extraction progress, go back to Data configurations page and select request history.

·      After the job is completed, the next changes are in SME. Go to admin console and select Semantic model extensions.

·      Create a sandbox with a name.

·      In perform action, select manage logical star.

·      Select edit logical star> out of the box >Subject area name> fact name and click on “Next”.

·      In logical star page click on “Manage Dimension” and select “Add Dimension”.

·      Select the schema name. “OAX_USER” is default for DA tables. Select the object name which is the dimension name. 3rd Entry is automatically generated, use different name if the name is already used. Make sure there are no whitespace errors/ gaps before and after the name.

·      Then select the attributes/columns of the custom dimension and primary key. Click “Next”.

·      In the Next window uncheck hierarchy. Even though no hierarchy is selected, name must be given as mandatory step. In selected data elements tab, click “detail” to get the primary key details and click on edit display attribute to select the column.

·      Click finish after all selections.

·      The new dimension is added to logical star > Join the new dimension to the fact.

·      Select the desired join type and give the primary keys of fact and the new custom dimension.

·      The content level must be set to “Detail”.

·      Click done as final step in logical star modification.

·      Go back to the sandbox window and click on “perform action” to “modify subject area”.

·      Select modify subject area and the required subject area and click “Next”.

·      Verify the folders of subject area and click “Next”.

·      In second wizard of subject area modification click “manage extensions” dropdown and select “Manage new customization”.

·      The new dimension folder must be visible and then the required column must be selected. All the folders will be added if we click on the first checkbox option beside the dimension name.

·      Click on “Add”.

·      Verify the new folders in right tab and click on “Finish”.

·      Go back to user extensions page and apply changes to the sandbox.

·      Check the status in “activity” tab.

·      Publish the new sandbox changes from publish model option.

·      Check the status in Activity Tab.

·      After changes are published go to OAC Url or click on home page from FDI admin console.

·      Select the modified subject area from analytics dropdown> Data.

Check if the new dimension folder is added to the subject area

·      Validate the data by selecting columns from the custom dimension.

·      Check if the dimension is compatible with ootb fact by adding columns from the fact too or other existingdimensions. (This validates that there is join between custom dimension and
fact.)
